The whole posting midweek thing didn't really work but come on, let's continue going with the flow. This week I don't really have a lot to ramble on about because I've basically sat on my bed all week and watched Pretty Little Liars, okay I never realised quite how addictive it is... I'm not ashamed to say that as soon as this is posted I will return to watching it. I'm also managing to find a way to reference the show at the most random times, I'm adding that onto my skills list (it currently only has one skill...touching my nose with my tongue is important, okay?!)
Last night I was with cadets again, volunteering at the Sparkle Walk in aid of Ashgate Hospice, which is an independent registered charity that provides specialist palliative and end of life care and support to adults and their families across North Derbyshire. We were on basic volunteer duties: helping with registration, sorting the merchandise, refreshments and all that sort of stuff but at an event like that in my eyes it isn't really what you're doing that bothers you. I mean, you could be doing something so boring and normally you'd complain about it but you take a look around and just see so many people there for such a good cause. I saw a woman on oxygen complete that walk with her husband carrying her oxygen tank, it was honestly a sight that I will never forget. When you see so many people coming together to raise money for a cause that is close to so many people's hearts it just makes you want to go that extra mile, pardon the pun, to make it that little easier. As I was scrolling through Twitter last night whilst attempting to get bright pink UV paint off my face, you have to get into the spirit - right?! I noticed that Ashgate Hospice had put a tweet on their account announcing that last night they raised an incredible amount of £127,000. How amazing is that? As the walk started it was an amazing sight, a sea of pink with flashing bunny ears and fireworks lighting up the sky. I am so happy that I helped with that event.
Today I was also with cadets...again, I went flying. It was only the second time that I have been flying whilst being a cadet but I had the chance to do aerobatics and although my tummy felt slightly funny as I was spiraling in the air, that was meant to happen, it was amazing. I loved the view whilst I was up there, I was literally in the clouds and they just looked like cotton wool being ripped apart and in the fields below the animals were so tiny. The cars also looked like tiny toy cars that you played with on the carpet mat of the town, you all had one or knew of one so don't deny it, I felt like a giant which was ironic because I'm quite short. It was amazing.
Of course, today is Fathers Day so I couldn't write a blog post without mentioning my Father otherwise I think he'd be quite offended. Happy Fathers Day Dad, I know I have been flying and you've been at work but I hope you've had a top notch day. Thank you for everything you do for me, even though we disagree on about 96.45% of things. Thank you for always making me laugh. Thank you for always being my biggest fan and biggest critic. Thank you for being the best Dad that I could ever ask for. So here everyone, have a lovely photo of a little me with a very cheesy grin giving my Dad a hug.
Until next week,
Goodbye x
