Hello Earthlings,
From the title it is probably a bit of a giveaway that I will be rambling a bit about my recent trip to Spain, I visited Spain last year and posted about it here but I can promise that it is a bit different this time. I mean, we stayed in the same place and I went with the same person, hey Jack, but we were there longer (2 weeks and 1 day to be precise) so we had chance to explore more. I'm not going to go into insane detail about the places we visited as we just wandered through with no exact plan as it was a nice break. Just stay with me here...
La Cala de Mijas itself is located in such a perfect spot, it's a bus ride away from so many places with its own little hub of activity. From the several restaurants dotted around, I recommend Biddy Mulligans Steak and Ale pie, to little shops selling your typical souvenirs to earrings and clothes it really is a little treat. Plus this is all about 2 minutes walk from the beach, everyone's a winner. Whilst we were there, there was a Jersey Boys tribute band playing outside the town hall one Thursday evening and it was lovely seeing everyone gather around and sway along underneath the pretty skies.
Mijas is a great town with its white buildings and narrow streets it is a haven to shops of all sorts with picturesque views to tie in the beauty. Seriously, you can't really look anywhere without being speechless (even I was, hard to believe) about the scenery, it was almost as if it was taken from a painting. There's also a chocolate factory here so if that isn't enough reason to visit then I do not know what else I could possibly say to convince you to go.
Marbella, or Marbs if we're going all TOWIE-like, was lovely we had a bit of a wander and got a bit lost in a market that we were expecting to be a normal market but no, it was a dedicated fish market and we then lost the door to get out so looked at some freaky looking lobsters and eventually made it out. I do recommend looking at the big park type thing on the main street because there's so many great places to sit in the sun or shade, all beautifully decorated and it leads directly onto the row of Salvador Dali sculptures. There's obviously some pretty great shops there as well or you can just chill on the beach.
We returned to Malaga to have a bit more of a wander around the history and we found the Cathedral and it was literally right in the middle of this street of shops, with no grand entrance or anything and it was pretty surreal how there was all these modern shops around such a historical part of Malaga. We also wondered in 32 degree heat to find the British Cemetery but it appeared that we couldn't actually get into it so that was a no. We also found the Gibralfaro which looked like it would be an amazing view, as it is a castle on a hill (cue the Ed Sheeran singing, I dare you, I did too), but it was way too hot for us to walk up there. Plus, me and walking uphill anyway are a bit of a no, I'd have found a way to injure myself.
Overall, we had a really lovely time in Spain although there was a day that it rained quite a bit in the morning so we had a lazy day and planned how to spend the rest of our time. Oh and the cricket was on, I'd have rather watched paint dry so finished my book which I reviewed and you can read here. I shall now leave you with some pictures to get a sunshine fix and cheer you up as it is probably raining.
Until next week,
Lia x
