Blogmas Day 14: Crafty at Christmas

Greetings Elflings,

TODAY HAS BEEN SO FESTIVE. I mean I haven't quite got the one paragraph finished on my essay that I've been doing for the past 3 days done yet but I still have plenty of time and I've had a really good day. As I sit here right now I feel rather content, which must mean a day well spent. Poet and I didn't know it. This is too easy but it's starting to get cheesy. I'll stop.

Anyway, this morning I got to go and spend two hours doing crafts with one of my favourite people in the whole wide world, my little (I say little even though he kindly pointed out earlier that he is very nearly taller than me at the age of 10) god brother, Charlie. We made these cookie jar things, which had all the mix for some cookies in and you just had to add the butter at home. These were fun although we chose tall, narrow jars so had some difficulty when attempting to pat the brown sugar down. We got there in the end though and I'd say ours were the best but that isn't the attitude to promote to year 6's, so I silently thought that.
Then we made a snowman card and doing this sort of stuff took me back to being in primary school myself. Although I loved the cookie jar ideas, I don't remember ever doing anything like that but I remember making cards and such; so being sat on one of those very small chairs with a glue spreader in hand and rolling cotton wool balls up to make the body bought lots of happiness to me. Primary school was the absolute best.

Our final activity was a star tree decoration with beads, not to say it went well or anything but the one I made is currently hanging proudly on our tree. Rather close to the bauble I made when I was about 4, which has loads of sequins stuck on it. It is nice to see how I'm still happy with primary school crafts and pipe cleaners, lots of pipe cleaners (whoever invented them needs a medal). This was all whilst my Dad was doing other craft stuff with my littler (ha ha, I still have some height against this one!) god brother, Alfie. I had a thoroughly lovely morning, even down to burning my mouth on the cup of tea I made myself during break time. (There was a big queue of parents and they all knew what they were doing, whereas we all know what I'm like and struggle with basic activities such as opening the door the wrong way or just being too weak to open the door, so I rushed my tea and didn't put enough milk in. Absolute nightmare)

Which leads me on to the next bit. My Dad and I successfully made a gingerbread house! But no pictures and a massive spoiler because tomorrow's post is all about the gingerbread house.

There was the time in between taking the gingerbread out the oven and waiting for it to cool that I had to kill though, instead of sitting on the kitchen floor like an impatient child I decided to give one of the crafty things I bought at the Knitting and Stitching Show a go! I personally think it ended up quite well and I'm so chuffed with it and I only stabbed myself approximately 4 times. Basically, one of the stalls there sold kits on how to make your own needle felt things and I opted for the Father  Christmas one. I have never given anything like this a go before but it was so therapeutic and it didn't take that long at all. I truly expected it to take a very long time because of how good the pictured instructions were, but once I got going it was pretty quick. Needless to say I have started another Santa, and will soon be looking on the website to give myself another challenge. If you want to have a go yourself, great stress reliever, for a super easy present that looks great and is a really good quality (it doesn't have to just be for Christmas there's loads of options then go to feltcreative.co.uk (I would leave the link myself but the whole add a link button is not cooperating and I don't have the patience to wait for it to stop being mardy so I'm sorry).

So get crafty people!
Until tomorrow,
Lia x

Doris goes to see Captain Marvel | FILM REVIEW

Hello dearies!  I hear the new film that's 'hot on the block' recently is this Captain Marvel one, and little old Doris does like to be hip, trendy and down with the kids *throws the equivalent of a swagger sign* so decided to hop on the bandwagon and go along, booking myself in for the 12.00 (pm just to clarify) showing at the local cinema. I'm currently cutting down on the whole chocolate/cake/biscuits scene, so sneaked a small tub of Pringles into the cinema with me...I have to say, I felt like a bit of a rebel eating food that I'd bought from somewhere else whilst inside the cinema, it was an adrenaline rush! If you're wondering what flavour Pringles they were, I obviously chose the best ones aka sour cream and onion as I'm not some sort of monster.  Anyway, I did buy one of those Tango Ice thingymabobs as I hear that's too what the cool kids like to have at the cinema. I could only have cherry though as the machine wasn't working properly, t

End of Summer Catch Up

Hello Earthlings, One I know this post is late and last weeks was early but from this Sunday it will be back to normal and two please don't be upset with the title of this blog as I hate to tell all of you summer lovers but summer is nearing the end...well for 2016 anyway but saying summer 2017 seems a little bit too far away right now. I thought that I would take some time now to have a catch up, through the screens of our technical devices, before the new season is upon us. I have to say, I personally love the changing of the seasons, for any season not just for the end of the summer to the beginning of autumn but for all of them. I don't really have a favourite season because I love the perks of all of them; autumn means the leaves change colours and Halloween and Bonfire Night, winter means cold weather, cosiness, Christmas and New Year, spring means lighter nights, Easter and new life and summer means hot weather, relaxing and of course a lot of time off (well for now,

Twenty

Hello Earthlings! As I sit and type this I'm tucked up cosy in bed and listening to the wind batter everything in sight, and it doesn't matter that today I turned 20 because the wind still scares me so I'm still going to tuck up as tight as I can and try my best to ignore it after I've typed this. But, anyway! Hi. Birthdays are a funny thing, you know they're going to happen and you know that you get older but they're a bit odd. When I was little, I looked forward to being a teenager which in itself is completely barmy (maybe I'm the only one intimidated by groups of teenagers...), and I always thought "13 is such a grown up age!!!" because 6 year old me was clearly clueless. I remember a particular time where I stood looking out of my bedroom window, in the house I lived in as a young child, wistfully into the distance (you know like they do on films where it gets to a real deep moment?) and couldn't wait for 13 to arrive so I could be a &
