Blogmas Day 3: The Blurt Foundation

Elflings, hi!

Today I decided to calm things down a bit, still on the topic of December and all things festive but in an inclusive way where we include people who may be struggling a bit around this time of the year. So, hop on board the Christmas train and away we go.

Whilst scrolling through Twitter the other day I came across the photo a day challenge for December as proposed by the Blurt Foundation, I hadn't heard of the Blurt Foundation at all so had a look at what I had to do and what this whole Blurt thing was. Really, I was pleasantly surprised it's a movement that increases the awareness and understanding of depression. On their website they describe themselves as the "knowing nod" and the little movement that says "I understand" and I think that's a wonderful thing.

Just reading through their "about us" section of their website tells you that Blurt exists to make a difference to anyone affected by depression and to help people understand it. They support, listen and introduce you to people who can help you to help yourself. In the future they hope to increase the awareness and understanding of depression, develop additional peer support networks, collaborate with partners to facilitate learning and innovation and so much more. They also do a BuddyBox, a bit like a BirchBox but "a hug in a box" that provides 5 items of self care a month and I think it's a bloody good idea. If you would like to find out more about the Blurt Foundation then please read here!

But for nowwww... the photo a day challenge! (Please imagine the nowwww as being really dramatic, thank you and panto-like). It's called #blurtmerrycalmness and their aim is to "add some calm to the festive fuss". They provide a prompt each day and you simply post the picture matching the prompt and you're well away. I think this is a really good idea because although I love Christmas and seem to turn into a full-blown elf, I know that for a lot of people it isn't a merry time of the year and you really don't know how someone is feeling or if there is a particular reason they don't enjoy this time of the year. I, personally, encourage you to be that little bit kinder to everyone you see (it's a good habit to get into) and it might just make someone's day. I will add the picture of prompts and you can search "The Blurt Foundation" on Instagram to keep up with their posts as well!

However, whilst on the subject of helping people please don't forget about various shoe box appeals and reverse advent calendars and whatnot. Let's all help together.

I simply found inspiration for this post from scrolling through Twitter and someone (I can't remember who or I'd give you a little shoutout for being a ray of positivity) retweeted this so thank you, you amazing human.

Thank you for reading and if you're still keeping up to date on me rambling about anything then you're an angel and deserve so many mince pies!

Until tomorrow,
Lia x

P.S. I know it's the third, but you aren't too late to start the challenge!

Phrases I Hate

Hey Earthlings! We all have those phrases or quotes or sometimes just words that when we hear them it makes our blood boil and our neck do that funny thing where you kind of go "bleurghuohui". You know what I mean? I've taken a few of them, listed them here and told you exactly why I hate them. Let me know if there's some more you hate. "There's someone out there worse off than you" Yes, this may be the case and I hope they come out of their situation feeling all the joys of spring but just because there is someone out there with more issues than you're feeling, it does not mean your experiences and feelings are invalid. If you are trying to comfort someone and make them feel better about their situation in what way is, "ah well don't worry, Tina down the road is way worse off than you are" going to make them feel better? EXACTLY. It won't. End of, let's just entirely blow this phrase away. "Respect your elders"...

Goodbye 2018, Hello 2019

Hello Earthbugs! I'm back and hopefully this upcoming year will be a lot better post wise than 2018, if I tell you the truth I don't really know what happened. Quite a few times during 2018 I felt all out of sorts and not really motivated to do anything, which for me is horrible because I thrive off having a goal to get and so on. Writing has always been a passion of mine and my blog allows me to have my own little space on the internet which I have always loved the idea of so 2019 is definitely the year that I attempt to throw myself back into blogging. I hope you're happy to come along on that journey with me! I decided to combine the goodbye 2018 post and hello 2019 post instead of doing separate posts this time, so feel free to grab yourself a cup of tea or something stronger if you like and let's go. 2018. I think I can safely say that 2018 hasn't been the year for my family, we have gone through a lot of battles and hard times and somehow come out of t...

FILM REVIEW - How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

I'll admit in terms of the How to Train Your Dragon films I'm a bit rusty, in fact very rusty as I have never seen the first one...or the second one. But I decided to go along and see the 3rd one as I'd heard about the hype surrounding it and thought "why not". The kids watching the film were probably less annoying than some of the parents, yes I'm talking to you the woman two rows in front who scrolled through Facebook and your Snapchat stories for half the film, 104 minutes is not a long time to go without social media - maybe give it a go!  I'm sure I'd have understood bits of the film more if I'd seen the other two but I wouldn't deem it as one of those films that make no sense without watching the first in the series. So, don't worry if you have no dragon knowledge and get dragged along to see it.  Hiccup discovers that his dragon Toothless isn't the only remaining Night Fury, and he must find "The Hidden World" that ...
